Char Siu
This succulent Chinese barbecue pork recipe is perfect for all your char siu needs, whether in a bowl of bouncy noodles or tucked into a steamed bun.
Instructions
- 1
Cut the pork into long strips about 2 inches wide and place in a bowl or dish large enough for marinating.
- 2
In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, salt, five-spice powder, white pepper, sesame oil, cooking wine, Great Value Less Sodium Soy Sauce, hoisin sauce, garlic, and red food coloring.
- 3
Set aside 2 tablespoons of the marinade, then pour the rest over the pork and turn to coat evenly. Marinate the pork in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
- 4
When ready to cook the pork, preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- 5
Stir the honey into the reserved marinade.
- 6
Place the pork on the prepared baking sheet. Roast for 1 hour, basting a few times with the honey-marinade mixture. Cover with foil and bake for another 20–30 minutes, until the pork is tender.
- 7
Remove the pork from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes, then slice and serve on a bed of rice.
- 8
Enjoy!
