Easy Rice Paper Chocolate Xiaolongbao

By Tasty25 min🍽 8 servings

These easy rice paper chocolate xiaolongbao are a playful, dessert-inspired take on the classic soup dumpling. Softened rice paper wraps around chocolate truffles, then steams until delicate and translucent, creating a chewy exterior with a warm, molten chocolate center. Lightly sweet and irresistibly gooey, each bite mimics the burst of traditional xiaolongbao in a fun, simplified form.

Instructions

  1. 1

Fill a bowl with room-temperature or cold water. Submerge 1 rice paper sheet in the water until just softened, about 10 seconds (the sheet will continue to soften as you work with it). Wrap the sheet around 1 chocolate truffle, like you’re wrapping a small dumpling or a “money bag.” (Alternatively, if you have a sweet tooth, first submerge the chocolate truffle in a small bowl of water just for a few seconds. Roll it in powdered sugar to coat, then wrap it in the softened rice paper sheet.) Repeat the process with the remaining rice paper sheets and truffles.

  2. 2

Set up a steamer. If using a bamboo steamer, bring a few inches of water to a simmer in a wok or pot, and place the steamer basket on top. (If you don’t have a steamer, place a small rack inside a pot filled with a little simmering water.) Line a heatproof plate that’s smaller than your steamer basket with parchment paper. Lightly grease the parchment paper with neutral oil or melted butter. Transfer the dumplings to the parchment paper, arranged about 1 inch between each dumpling. Place the plate in the bamboo steamer (or on the rack in your pot), and steam over medium-low heat until the rice paper sheets turn translucent and the truffles are melted inside, 6–7 minutes. Remove from the steamer, and enjoy while still warm. Be careful, as the chocolate inside may be hot.

  3. 3

    Enjoy!

  4. 4

Notes: Make sure the dumplings are not touching, as rice paper becomes sticky once steamed. If you don’t have a traditional steamer, you can place a heatproof plate on top of a small rack inside a pot with a little simmering water. Avoid letting condensation drip onto the dumplings by covering the steamer lid with a clean kitchen towel.
